What is a background remover, and how does this free Nepal tool work?
A background remover separates the subject of a photo from its backdrop and replaces that backdrop with transparency, giving you a PNG that can sit on any colour, template or design. Scolar’s Background Remover is a free, browser-based way to do this for anyone in Nepal: you drop a photo with a fairly even background, adjust one slider, and download a clean cut-out — with no sign-up, no watermark and no upload of your image.
Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use
The entire job runs on your own device using the HTML canvas. Because no image is ever sent to a server, there is no storage cost for us and no account for you to create. That is why the tool stays 100% free, asks for no email or password, adds no watermark, and lets you process unlimited photos and retries.
How the background is removed, step by step
- Choose or drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP whose background is fairly even — white, light or a single solid colour works best.
- Drag the Tolerance slider: higher erases more of the edge colour, lower keeps more of your subject safe.
- Click “Remove background” — the tool flood-fills from the four edges and turns the connected backdrop transparent, all on your device.
- Preview the transparent PNG on the checkerboard, retry with a different tolerance if needed, then download.
When a transparent PNG beats a JPG
Only PNG (and WEBP) supports transparency; a JPG can only show a solid colour, so it would refill the removed area and undo the cut-out. Use the transparent PNG for product listings, ID-style photos, logos and any layout where the subject must float. If you later need a JPG, convert it with our Image Converter.
Tips for a clean edge in Nepal’s real conditions
Shoot against a plain wall or bedsheet and use good light — the tool follows the background inward from the four edges, so an even backdrop gives the sharpest result. Raise the tolerance slider when faint patches remain, and lower it if part of your subject (hair, a logo, light clothing) starts to disappear. For busy scenes where the subject blends into the background, an edge-based tool like this will need a little manual cleanup; that trade-off is what keeps your photo private and offline.
