What is a CSV file?

CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is the simplest way to store tabular data as plain text: each line is a row and each value is separated by a comma. Bank statements, attendance exports, result sheets from the NEB portal, inventory lists from billing software - almost every system in Nepal can export CSV, which is why it remains the universal data exchange format.

Why view CSV in a table?

Opening a large CSV in Notepad shows an unreadable wall of commas; opening it in Excel can silently corrupt values like phone numbers (977-98XXXXXXXX becomes 9.78E+11) or leading zeros of postal codes. This viewer renders your file exactly as stored - every cell is shown verbatim - with none of Excel's auto-formatting surprises.

Searching and sorting

Type in the search box to instantly filter rows across all columns - useful for finding one student among thousands or one SKU in a price list. Click any column header to sort by it; the tool detects whether a column holds numbers or text and sorts accordingly, so 2 correctly comes before 10.

Delimiters and headers

Not all CSV files use commas: Excel in many locales exports semicolon-separated files, and database dumps often use tabs or pipes. Auto-detection inspects your first line and picks the most likely separator, but you can override it manually. If your file starts directly with data instead of column names, turn off "First row is header" to label columns generically.

Quoted fields done right

Real-world CSV often contains quoted fields with embedded commas ("Kathmandu, Ward 10") or even newlines inside quotes. The parser follows RFC 4180, so quoted commas, escaped quotes (""), and multi-line cells are all handled correctly - no more broken rows when someone's address contains a comma.

Privacy and limits

Your file is read with the browser FileReader API and parsed in memory - nothing is uploaded to any server, so confidential payroll or customer data stays on your machine. The viewer comfortably handles hundreds of thousands of rows thanks to pagination; only the visible page is rendered to keep scrolling smooth.

What is a CSV viewer, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A CSV viewer opens comma-separated files as a readable table you can sort and scan. Scolar’s viewer runs in your browser: upload or paste a CSV and explore it instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

File parsing happens on your device, so your data stays local and no account is needed. That keeps it 100% free with unlimited files and no watermark.

How to use this tool, step by step

  • Upload or paste your CSV file.
  • Sort or scroll the table to inspect the data.
  • Copy a cell or row if needed; the file never leaves your device.

Reading CSVs in Nepal

Clerks in Kathmandu opening government exports, students checking assignment data, and shopkeepers reviewing supplier lists all need to peek at a CSV. Offline viewing keeps the file on their own machine.

“A Nepali clerk should not buy Excel just to open one CSV. Upload, read the table — free.”

How it works

1

Drop a .csv file onto the box, or paste CSV text straight from your clipboard.

2

Search across all columns and click any header to sort - numbers sort numerically.

3

Flip pages through big files, then Clear when you are done - nothing was ever uploaded.

Why use this tool?

  • RFC-4180 parsing handles quoted fields, embedded commas and multi-line cells.

  • Auto-detects comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters - override anytime.

  • Runs entirely in your browser - sensitive payroll or customer data stays local.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CSV file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read locally by your browser and parsed in memory. Nothing ever leaves your device.

How big a CSV can it open?

Files with several hundred thousand rows work fine because only the current page of 25 rows is rendered at a time. Very large files are limited mainly by your device memory.

My file uses semicolons instead of commas.

Auto-detection usually picks the right separator. If not, choose Semicolon, Tab, or Pipe manually from the delimiter menu.

Why do my phone numbers look wrong?

They probably looked wrong in Excel, which converts long numbers to scientific notation. This viewer displays the original text exactly as stored in the file.

Can I sort by any column?

Yes - click a column header once for ascending order and again for descending. Numeric columns sort numerically, everything else alphabetically.
