What is a webcam and mic test, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A webcam and mic test shows your live camera feed and records a short audio level so you know both work. Scolar’s tool runs in your browser: allow device access, see the video and meter, then stop. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing is uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

Access happens locally through your browser’s device APIs, so no video or audio is sent anywhere and no account is needed. That keeps it 100% free with unlimited tests and no watermark.

How to use this tool, step by step

  • Allow camera and microphone access when prompted.
  • See your live video and watch the audio level meter.
  • Stop the test; no feed is recorded or uploaded.

Device checks in Nepal

Students in Kathmandu joining online classes, freelancers on international calls, and remote workers in weak-network areas all check their gear first. Testing locally means your camera and mic feed never leaves the device.

“A Nepali student should not buy an app just to check their webcam before class. Open, test, done — free.”

How it works

1

Press start on the camera card and allow the browser permission prompt.

2

Do the same for the microphone, then speak normally - the meter should dance with your voice.

3

Save a snapshot if you want proof the camera works, or just hit stop when done.

Why use this tool?

  • Streams play locally only - there is no server, no recording and no upload.

  • Resolution and live levels are shown so you can verify quality, not just connectivity.

  • Clear messages explain exactly what went wrong if a device refuses to start.

  • Works in all modern desktop and mobile browsers on https pages.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything recorded?

No. Video and audio are played inside this page only and dropped when you stop the test. The sole optional save is a snapshot you explicitly download.

Why does the browser ask for permission?

Browsers require consent before any site can use your camera or microphone. You can revoke it anytime via the padlock icon in the address bar.

The meter moves but people cannot hear me.

Then the mic hardware is fine and the issue is in your calling app - open its settings and pick the correct input device.

Why does it not work on http?

Browsers restrict camera and microphone APIs to secure https pages (or localhost during development).
