What "Unlock" actually does

Many PDFs carry permission flags that stop you printing, copying text or editing - even though the file opens freely. This tool re-saves the PDF you own without those restriction flags, so you can print, copy and modify it again. It does not crack an unknown password.

Owner-locked vs password-locked

There are two kinds of protection. "Owner" restrictions (print/copy disabled) are what this tool removes. A true "user" password that blocks opening the file entirely is different - the browser cannot decrypt it without the password, so you would need the correct password and a desktop tool such as qpdf or Adobe.

When strong encryption blocks it

If a PDF uses strong AES encryption (typically set in Adobe Acrobat or with qpdf), the browser cannot read or strip it. In that case the tool tells you to open it with the password in Adobe/Preview and print to a new PDF, or use a desktop qpdf command - it will not silently fail.

Only unlock files you own

Use this only on PDFs you created, own, or have clear permission to modify. Bypassing restrictions on documents you are not entitled to change may break the law or your institution’s rules. The tool is meant for recovering access to your own files.

How to open a password-locked file

If you do know the password: open the PDF in Adobe Reader or Preview, enter the password, then choose Print and "Save as PDF". That produces a fresh, unrestricted copy. On Linux, the command "qpdf --decrypt --password=PASS in.pdf out.pdf" does the same.

Your file stays private

The PDF is opened and re-saved entirely inside your browser; it is never uploaded to a server. Confidential papers stay on your device, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

What is an unlock-PDF tool, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

An unlock-PDF tool removes a password from a PDF you are allowed to open, so you can edit or print it. Scolar's Unlock PDF is free and browser-only: enter the password and download the open file. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The processing runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device and no account is needed. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you process unlimited documents.

How to unlock a PDF, step by step

  • Upload the password-protected PDF.
  • Enter the password you have.
  • Download the unlocked PDF.

Opening locked files in Nepal

You may own a PDF locked by an old password - a college form, a saved statement - and now need to print or edit it. Unlocking in your browser keeps the content private and works offline after loading.

Frequently asked questions

What does Unlock do?

It opens a PDF you own - even one with viewer restrictions like disabled printing or copying - and re-saves it without those restrictions, so you can edit, print or re-share it. It does not crack an unknown password.

Will it work on any password PDF?

It works on PDFs with owner/view permission flags or light protection. Strong AES-encrypted PDFs created by Adobe or qpdf cannot be unlocked in the browser - you need the correct password and a desktop tool such as Adobe, Preview or qpdf.

Is it legal?

Only unlock PDFs you own or have permission to modify. Do not bypass protection on files you are not entitled to change; that may violate laws or your institution’s rules. The tool is for recovering access to your own documents.

My file asks for a password to even open - what now?

That is user-password encryption the browser cannot decrypt. If you know the password, open it in Adobe/Preview, choose Print and "Save as PDF" to get an unrestricted copy, or run "qpdf --decrypt --password=PASS in.pdf out.pdf" on desktop.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is opened and re-saved entirely in your browser, so it never leaves your device, and the tool works offline once loaded.

Will the unlocked PDF keep my content?

Yes. Removing the restriction flags does not alter the pages, text or images - you get the same document, just without the print/copy/edit limits.
