What is a BMI calculator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator estimates whether your weight is healthy for your height. Scolar's BMI Calculator is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: enter your weight and height and see your BMI and category instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The maths happens in your browser, so your weight and height never leave your device and no account is required. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you calculate for the whole family.

How to calculate BMI, step by step

  • Enter your weight in kilograms.
  • Enter your height in centimetres (or feet and inches).
  • See your BMI value and whether you are under, normal, over or obese.

BMI and medical checks in Nepal

Nepali army, police and ANM/HA recruitment include a BMI or fitness check, and many schools now run health drives. This tool lets a student in Kathmandu or a candidate in a rural district find their category in seconds, entirely offline after the page opens.

“A Nepali should not install a paid app to learn if their weight is healthy. Enter two numbers - free.”

How it works

1

Pick metric (cm/kg) or imperial (ft-in/lbs) - whichever you are used to.

2

Type your height and weight; your BMI appears instantly with its category.

3

Read the coloured scale to see where you sit between underweight and obese.

Why use this tool?

  • Shows both WHO categories and the stricter BMI 23 action point recommended for South Asian adults.

  • Includes your personal healthy weight range so goals become concrete kilograms, not abstract numbers.

  • A screening guide, not a medical diagnosis - muscle mass, age and fat distribution all matter.

  • Runs offline in your browser; nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How is BMI calculated?

Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. A 65 kg person at 1.70 m has a BMI of about 22.5.

What is a healthy BMI?

WHO calls 18.5-24.9 healthy, below 18.5 underweight, 25-29.9 overweight and 30+ obese. For South Asian adults many guidelines treat 23 and above as raised risk.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not really. Muscle weighs more than fat, so very muscular people can score "overweight" despite low body fat. Use BMI as one signal alongside waist measurement and general fitness.

Can children use this tool?

Adults only. Children and teenagers need age-and-sex percentile charts interpreted by a health professional.
