What is Bikram Sambat (BS)?

Bikram Sambat, often written as B.S. or Vikram Samvat, is the official calendar of Nepal. It is a solar-lunar calendar that runs about 56-57 years ahead of the Gregorian (A.D.) calendar - so the Nepali year 2081 BS roughly corresponds to 2024-2025 AD. Government notices, newspaper dates, bank documents and most everyday Nepali references use BS.

Why Nepal uses a different calendar
