Why convert CSV to JSON?

CSV is the language of spreadsheets; JSON is the language of web apps. When you need spreadsheet data inside a JavaScript project, a NoSQL database like MongoDB, a REST API mock, or a config file, converting to JSON is the bridge. Nepali developers hit this constantly - result sheets exported from college systems, product lists from suppliers in Kathmandu, or survey data all arrive as CSV and end up inside an app as JSON.

Objects or plain arrays

With a header row, each CSV row becomes a JSON object keyed by column name - {"name": "Sita", "marks": 88} - which is what APIs and databases expect. Turn off the header option and every row becomes a plain array instead, matching position-based formats. Both shapes are valid JSON; pick whichever your downstream tool needs.

Smart type detection

Everything in a CSV is technically text, but "88" is really a number and "true" is really a boolean. Smart typing converts values that look like numbers, booleans (true/false/yes/no), or nulls (empty, NA, N/A) into proper JSON types, so you can filter and aggregate without parsing strings later. Disable it when you want a faithful text-for-text conversion - useful for codes with leading zeros like postal codes 44600.

Going the other way: JSON to CSV

Flip the direction switch to turn a JSON array of objects back into a CSV. The header row is built from the union of all keys across objects, missing values become empty cells, and anything containing commas, quotes, or newlines is quoted per RFC 4180 so Excel opens it cleanly. Great for turning API responses into spreadsheets for non-technical colleagues.

Quoting and messy data

Real exports are messy: addresses contain commas ("New Road, Kathmandu"), notes span multiple lines, and quotes get doubled (""). The parser follows RFC 4180 exactly, so these survive the round trip intact. Delimiter auto-detection also recognises semicolon, tab, and pipe separated files common from European Excel settings and database dumps.

Privacy and limits

Conversion runs entirely in your browser - your data never touches a server, making this safe for customer lists, payroll, or exam records. Files up to tens of megabytes convert in seconds; beyond that, memory becomes the limit on lower-end phones.

What is a CSV-to-JSON tool, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A CSV-to-JSON converter turns rows and columns into nested JSON objects a program can consume. Scolar’s tool runs in your browser: paste or upload a CSV, choose how rows map to objects, and copy the JSON. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

Parsing happens on your device, so your data stays local and no account is needed. That keeps it 100% free with unlimited conversions and no watermark.

How to use this tool, step by step

  • Upload or paste your CSV with a header row.
  • Choose how columns map to JSON keys and arrays.
  • Copy or download the JSON output; nothing is uploaded.

CSV to JSON in Nepal

Kathmandu startups feeding CSV exports into APIs, students learning data formats, and freelancers preparing client datasets all convert to JSON constantly. Offline conversion keeps source data off third-party servers.

“A Nepali developer should not install an app just to turn a CSV into JSON. Paste, convert, copy — free.”

How it works

1

Drop a CSV file or paste text - the delimiter is detected automatically.

2

Choose header handling and smart types, then read the live JSON preview.

3

Copy the result or download it as .json - or flip the switch to go JSON → CSV.

Why use this tool?

  • Smart typing turns "88" into 88 and "true" into true so the JSON is ready to query.

  • RFC-4180 quoting survives embedded commas, quotes and multi-line cells.

  • Runs entirely in your browser - customer and exam data never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does the converter keep numbers as numbers?

Yes - with smart typing enabled, values that look numeric become JSON numbers, true/false become booleans, and empty cells become null. Turn it off to keep everything as strings.

Can I convert JSON back to CSV?

Yes. Switch the direction toggle to JSON → CSV, paste an array of objects, and download a spreadsheet-ready file with a proper header row.

Is my data uploaded to a server?

No. All parsing and conversion happens locally in your browser - nothing is transmitted or stored.

My CSV uses semicolons. Will it work?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically across comma, semicolon, tab, and pipe separators.

What happens to empty cells?

With smart typing they become null in JSON; without it they stay as empty strings. Either way no data is dropped.
