What is a fraction calculator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A fraction calculator does arithmetic on fractions and shows the answer as a simplified fraction and decimal. Scolar's tool is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: pick add, subtract, multiply or divide, enter two fractions, and see the result instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The calculation runs on your device, so the fractions you enter are never stored and no account is required. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you solve unlimited problems.

How to calculate fractions, step by step

  • Choose the operation: add, subtract, multiply or divide.
  • Enter the two fractions (numerator and denominator).
  • See the simplified fraction and decimal result.

Fractions in the Nepali classroom

Nepal's basic and secondary maths curriculum leans heavily on fractions, and entrance exams for engineering and medicine test them too. This tool lets a student in any Nepali school check homework and build confidence, working offline after the page loads.

“A Nepali child should not need a paid app to add two fractions. Open it - free.”

How it works

1

Type the numerators and denominators of your two fractions.

2

Tap + to add, − to subtract, × to multiply or ÷ to divide.

3

Read the simplified answer, mixed number and the step-by-step working below.

Why use this tool?

  • Shows the full method - lowest common denominator, cross-multiplication for division, and simplification by the greatest common divisor.

  • Answers appear in three forms: simplified fraction, mixed number and decimal.

  • Handles negative fractions too - handy for checking algebra homework.

  • Everything computes instantly in your browser, even offline.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add two fractions?

Rewrite both over their lowest common denominator, then add the numerators only. For example 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6.

How do I divide one fraction by another?

Flip the second fraction upside down and multiply straight across. Dividing by 3/4 works out the same as multiplying by 4/3.

What does simplifying mean?

Dividing top and bottom by their greatest common divisor until nothing cancels further. 8/12 becomes 2/3 - the value never changes, only the way it is written.

What is a mixed number?

A whole number beside a proper fraction, like 1 1/4. It is another way of writing the improper fraction 5/4, and this tool shows both.
