Why attendance matters in Nepali colleges

Most campuses in Nepal enforce a minimum attendance bar before you are allowed to sit for end-of-semester or board exams. The usual threshold is 70%, while stricter faculties such as medicine, engineering and some private institutions require 75%. Miss too many lectures and the college can withhold your exam admit card, forcing you to repeat the subject or the year.

How the 70% and 75% rules work

Your attendance percentage is simply the classes you attended divided by the classes held, multiplied by 100. So if 100 lectures were scheduled and you attended 72, you are at 72% - safely above the 70% line but below a 75% requirement. The rule is applied per subject in many campuses, so a single low-attendance course can block you even if your overall average looks fine.

How to read your attendance percentage

Enter the total classes held so far and how many you actually attended, then pick the requirement your college uses. The card at the top turns green when you meet the rule and red when you are below, so you instantly know whether you are on the safe side or at risk of being barred.

How many more classes can you still miss?

Once you are above the requirement, the calculator tells you exactly how many upcoming classes you can skip while still staying at or above the line. For example, at 80% attendance against a 70% rule you might be able to miss several lectures, but as you approach the threshold that buffer shrinks to zero and every absence starts to matter.

How to recover if your attendance is already low

If you are below the requirement, the tool shows how many future classes you must attend in a row - with no further absences - to climb back to the line. Attending the next N lectures without missing any brings you up to exactly 70% or 75%, after which you can plan normal attendance again.

Planning ahead with projected attendance

The "classes still to come" field projects where your attendance will land by the end of the term. It shows a best case (you attend every remaining class) and a worst case (you skip them all), helping you decide early whether you need to be careful or can relax for the rest of the semester.

What is an attendance calculator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

An attendance calculator works out what percentage of classes you have attended, and how many more you can miss before crossing the limit. Scolar's Attendance Calculator is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: enter the classes held and attended (or classes you can still skip), and see your attendance instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

How to check attendance, step by step

  • Enter the total classes held so far for the subject.
  • Enter the number you have attended.
  • See your attendance percentage and how many more classes you can miss.

Attendance rules in Nepali colleges

Many Nepali campuses set a 75% or 80% attendance bar to sit the final exam, and TU, KU and PU affiliates enforce it strictly. This tool helps students in Kathmandu, Pokhara or a rural campus see exactly how close they are to the cut-off, and plan which classes they can afford to skip.

“A Nepali student should not buy an app just to know if they can skip one more class. Open it, type two numbers - free.”

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum attendance required in Nepali colleges?

Most colleges and universities in Nepal require at least 70% attendance to sit for exams, while stricter faculties such as medicine and engineering often require 75%. Always confirm the exact rule with your own campus, as it can vary by institution and even by subject.

What happens if my attendance falls below the required percentage?

If you drop below the threshold, the college can withhold your exam admit card for that subject. You may then have to repeat the subject, pay a fine, or attend extra makeup classes to recover before the exams.

How is attendance percentage calculated?

It is (classes attended ÷ classes held) × 100. For example, if 50 classes were held and you attended 38, your attendance is 76%. The requirement (70% or 75%) decides whether that is enough.

How many more classes can I miss and still be safe?

That depends on your current percentage and the rule. The calculator shows exactly how many upcoming classes you can skip while staying at or above the requirement - once you reach the line, any further absence starts eating into your buffer.

Can I recover if I am already below the requirement?

Yes. The tool tells you how many future classes you must attend in a row - with no more absences - to climb back to the 70% or 75% line. Attending the next N lectures without missing any gets you exactly to the threshold.

Is the attendance rule applied per subject or overall?

Many Nepali campuses apply the minimum attendance per subject, so a single low-attendance course can block you even if your average looks fine. Check whether your college calculates it by subject or across all classes combined.
