What does flattening a PDF do?
Flattening converts the interactive layer of a PDF - fillable form fields, comments, highlights and annotations - into ordinary page content. The answers you typed are baked in as if they were printed, so the document looks the same everywhere but can no longer be edited through a PDF viewer.
Forms and annotations become permanent
Before flattening, anyone can click into a field and change or reset your answers. After flattening, the text is part of the page image of the PDF, not a live field. Signatures, checkboxes and dropdown selections are also locked in place exactly as they appear.
Why flatten before sharing
