The honest picture
Ireland occupies a useful middle ground: an English-speaking EU country with a one-year masters structure like the UK, a two-year post-study stay-back for masters graduates, and the European headquarters of most large technology and pharmaceutical companies concentrated in Dublin and Cork.
The constraint is cost, and specifically accommodation. Dublin rents are among the highest in Europe and universities cannot house every international student, so students who arrive without confirmed accommodation can face months of difficulty. Universities outside Dublin : Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford : offer the same qualifications with a materially better cost of living.
Ireland accepts a wider range of English evidence than most destinations, including the Duolingo English Test at many institutions, which lowers the entry cost of applying.
Why Ireland
- Third Level Graduate Scheme: two years of stay-back for masters graduates, one year for bachelors
- English-speaking EU member, so no additional language requirement
- European bases of major technology, medtech and pharmaceutical employers
- 20 hours of permitted work per week in term, 40 during holidays
- September and January intakes
Tests Ireland asks for
The visa route
Apply online through the AVATS system after receiving an offer and paying tuition in full to an approved provider. The file needs the offer letter, evidence of fee payment, private medical insurance, English evidence, academic documents and proof of at least EUR 10,000 in funds. Processing usually runs four to eight weeks. On arrival you register with immigration for an IRP card. A Ministry of Education NOC is required before departure.
Working during and after study
20 hours per week during term and 40 hours per week during the holiday periods. After graduation, the Third Level Graduate Scheme gives 24 months for masters holders and 12 months for bachelors holders to find employment.
Frequently asked
1 Does Ireland accept the Duolingo English Test?
Many Irish institutions do for admission. Confirm the immigration position separately before relying on it.
2 How long can I stay after graduating in Ireland?
Two years on the Third Level Graduate Scheme after a masters, one year after a bachelors.

"The Nepali students who do best in Ireland are the ones who treat the financial file as seriously as the offer letter. Tuition and living costs are only half the story: the proof of funds and a clean visa history are what turn an admission into a granted visa."

What Nepali students say about Ireland
"Moving to Ireland felt overwhelming until I broke it into steps: test, offer, NOC, visa. Keeping every cost in NPR front and centre stopped me from losing track of the budget."
Asha P.
Studying in Ireland
"I compared Ireland against two other countries side by side. Seeing the post-study work rights and the proof-of-funds requirement together made the choice obvious."
