What HSK is
HSK grades Mandarin ability across levels, and is the gate for both Chinese-taught degree programmes and the Chinese Government (CSC) scholarships that bring a steady number of Nepali students to China each year. Undergraduate programmes taught in Chinese typically ask for HSK 4; some medical and engineering degrees ask for HSK 5. English-taught programmes generally require no HSK for admission but often expect it before graduation.
Test format
Listening, reading and — from level 3 up — writing, at the level you register for. There is a separate spoken test (HSKK) that some scholarships require alongside it.
Where to take it
HSK is administered in Kathmandu by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University and other authorised centres, several times a year.
